It took no more than 30 mins to get to Milngavie from Glasgow Central and the start of the West Highland Way is just a few minutes walk from the train station. From the station it is well sign posted and takes you under station road via a pedestrian underpass. You then follow station road all the way to the official start, The West Higland Way Obelisk.

The first section of the way takes you through Mugdock Country Park, the paths are well marked and well kept so walking this section is pretty easy.

Following refreshments my pack felt much lighter and headed north towards Dumgoyne & the Glengoyne Distillery. I arrived at Dumgoyne at around 12 o’clock and was just in time for Lunch at the local pub and a whiskey tasting session at The Glengoyne Distillery. If you do plan to visit the distillery makes sure you take a small flask  and please ask them to explain the “Angels Share”.

Drymen is the next major town and for many the end of stage one. Drymen is your last opportunity to withdraw some cash before Kinlochleven so stock up on the readies before you leave.

Rather than stop in Drymen I decided to push on and found a wild camping spot about 1 mile south of Conic Hill and about 4 miles North of Drymen. I had views of both Conic Hill and Loch Lomond.
