The end is in sight and for me this is the end of another walking holiday. From Kinlochleven the West Highland ways follows an old military for 7 Miles. Apart from a steep climb out of Kinlochleven the remainder of the way is well marked easy going.
As I approached Lairigmor the weather had taken a turn for the worse, the whole Glen felt like a wind tunnel.
There has been extensive logging along this section leaving huge scares along the sides of the Glen.
Five Finger Gully Ben Nevis
You approach Ben Nevis from the South East and if you’re lucky you should be able to see Five Finger Gully.
The remainder of the way meanders through a tightly packed fir and spruce plantation which seems to go on forever.
The West Highland Way ends bizarrely on roundabout in the middle of Fort William, which apparently has been subject to a lot of controversy. I would of thought the Vistor Centre in Glen Nevis would have been a better choice but who am I to argue.
Fort William
For those lucky people able to stay a few nights here there is Ben Nevis and Glen Nevis to explore. Fort William also has ferries that will take you to the many Scottish Islands and the Jacobite Steam Railway.
For me the journey ends here, but I’m attempting the Cape Wrath Trail in March 2008. I’ll keep you posted.
