Blisters and sprains are common problems at this point so it’s worth making sure that any injuries are dealt with immediately & properly. I’ve see too many walkers leave hotspots on there feet only to see them develop into blisters the size of tenis balls within a few miles. Treat blisters seriously as they can easily get infected and cause long term ill health.
My luck with the weather had turned bad and from the clouds I could tell that there was worse to come. To keep my spirits up I started the day with full Scottish breakfast served at the Beinglas Farm Campsite.
The next 14 miles are easy in comparison to the latter section, as most of the route follows an old military road. So despite a gradual 7 mile climb most walkers find this section very easy.
River Falloch
The way follows the River Falloch for about 4 miles and cuts close enough in order to see the impressive Falloch Falls. The official route bypasses Crianlarich, so walkers wishing to visit this village need to follow signs for Crianlarich at the T junction 1 mile from Keilator Farm.
From Crianlarich the way takes a meandering route through a forestry commission plantation. Occassionally a break in the trees give you panoramic views of Ben More and Strath Fillan.
The way eventually crossed the busy A82, and I shouldn’t have to warn you, but extra care should be taken when crossing this road in poor weather.
In Auchtertyre is the Strathfillan Wigwam Village, which offers heated accommodation ideal for way walkers.
By the time I reached Tyndrum I was completely drenched, and I was in no mood for camping. The bunkhouse, “By The Way” in Tyndrum was cheap, clean and had a drying room which I used to dry out my clothes and socks for the following day.
The “By The Way” bunkhouse costs around £14.00 per person per night and offers warm comfortable accommodation. It provides a communal kitchen and dining area and well stock book shelf.
