Introduction to the West Highland Way
Packing for the West Highland Way
Glasgow
Milngavie to Conic Hill
Conic Hill to Rowardennan
Rowardennan to Inverarnan
Inverarnan to Tyndrum
Tyndrum to Inveroran
Inveroran to Kingshouse
Kingshouse to Kinlochleven
Kinlochleven to Fort William

This is probably the simplest section of the whole way, the paths are good and climbs so gentle that you should hardly notice them. From Tyndrum the path follows the railway all the way to Bridge of Orchy.

Beinn Dorain

The scenery is stunning and it’s worth taking the time to explore Auch Gleann or some of the surrounding hills such as Beinn Dorain.

West Highland Way

The fact that the West Highland Way takes you from Lowand Scotland into the Higlands makes this journey very special, the landscape in this section is in complete contrast to the rich pastures  surrounding Milngavie.

Bridge of Orchy

I arrived at Bridge of Orchy Hotel just before 12 O’Clock and just in time for a beer. After drinking my own body weight in beer I decided to set off for Inveroran. From the Bridge of Orchy the path takes you over the east side of Mam Carraigh which gives you panoramic views of Loch Tulla.

The path then decends down into Inveroran and takes you directly past the Inveroran Hotel. Those wishing to camp here should continue over the bridge where there is a FREE camping area. The river is clean enough for drinking water, provided you boil it first and the campsite is within walking distance of the hotel bar. How convenient.

On a clear night the stars around here will provide hours of entertainment and if you’re lucky you may get a visit from one of the many wild deer that live in this area.
